Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction project calls for involvement
The facility will be involved in the destruction of chemical arms stockpiles currently at the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD). This facility is currently being constructed and it is located near Richmond, Kentucky. Brubaker says having an open and transparent process is important for both the facility and the surrounding community.
"We want our people going home safely at the end of their shifts, our neighbors remaining safe from any threat from the aging munitions, and our surroundings free from pollutants," Brubaker said.
The Richmond Register reported that the facility's control room began its 24-hour operations on July 18. The control room acts as the central portion of the plant's operations, and Brubaker told the publication that this milestone brings the facility a step closer to its mission of disposing chemical weapons stockpiled in the state in a safe manner.
They also report that the facility will be destroying 523 tons of chemical weapons that include nerve agents that are located within rockets and other projectiles at the BGAD.
