Smiths Group announces changes in management

Smiths Group announced on Thursday that Mel Rowlands has been appointed to serve as company secretary and deputy general counsel.

The company stated that Zillah Stone, who was working as the interim company secretary, has decided to pursue other opportunities. Smiths Group CEO Phillip Bowman thanked Stone for her service to the company during her tenure as interim secretary.

Smiths also announced that the director of investor relations and corporate communication, Peter Durham, has submitted his resignation in order to take a position with Imperial Tobacco. His resignation takes effect on Sept. 25. Andrew Lappin will be taking over Durham's duties in a combined role that will elevate him to the executive committee.

“I have very much enjoyed working with Peter, and the board is grateful for the significant contribution he has made in articulating the Smiths story to investors and other stakeholders over the past seven years," Bowman said. “We are truly sorry to see Peter leave and wish him every success in his new role. I add my congratulations to Andrew, who has worked closely with Peter for six years and is ideally placed to ensure a smooth handover and succession.”

Smiths Group has multiple business segments that specialize in detection, energy, communication and medical devices.
