FEMA seeks emergency management specialist

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking an emergency management specialist at its Herndon, Virginia, office, according to a Wednesday job listing.

This position is open to U.S. citizens who can pass a background investigation and hold the appropriate qualifications. This is a National Incident Management Team (IMAT) position requiring availability in an on-call basis at all hours should an emergency or disaster occur.

The emergency management specialist is responsible for coordinating emergency response and recovery operations, assists the operations' section chief in strategy development, and serves as a focal point for plan coordination. This position also requires participation in emergency exercises at multiple levels and completion of all required training.

Qualified individuals for this position will have received credentials as a Type I Branch Director and Type I Group Supervisor in a National Incident Management System (NIMS) organization by the closing date of this application window. Candidates should have knowledge and a thorough understanding of principles of the NIMS, the Incident Command System and the National Response Framework. Candidates should also provide evidence of abilities to work in a highly stressful environment, needs anticipation and adaptation to differing environments.
