Date set for Wisconsin's 48th annual emergency management conference
The conference, which will be held at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in Milwaukee, will include a pre-conference training on March 10. Information about the conference will be issued later in 2014.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker joined more than 350 first responders and government officials at last year's conference, which took place in March at the Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, Wis. Walker thanked the state's dedicated first responders.
"We rely on your talents and skills to help the residents of our state through various crises," Walker said. "Conferences like this prepare us to handle natural disasters, cyber attacks, and any other threat with which we are presented."
Maj. Gen. Donald Dunbar, the adjutant general of the Wisconsin National Guard, thanked Walker for his support for the conference and continued efforts to protect Wisconsin from harm.
"We face many dangers and threats in Wisconsin," Dunbar said. "This conference brings our emergency management community together, so we truly will be 'always ready, always there,' to protect residents and keep people safe from harm."
The areas covered at the 2014 conference included the efforts taken to minimize the impact of a recent propane shortage, the flood recovery efforts in northern and southwest Wisconsin, and a discussion about the state's first cybersecurity summit.
The conference is one of the oldest emergency management conferences in the U.S.
