China hosts Third Advanced Assistance and Protection Course
The course, jointly organized by the Government of the Republic of China and the OPCW, was held at the Institute of Chemical Defense in Beijing from May 26-30 and included five observers from Myanmar.
States parties at the event included Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Vietnam and Yemen. The participating experts came from the parties' national emergency response agencies that deal with chemical-related incidents. The experts had solid backgrounds in the chemistry associated with assistance and protection against chemical weapons.
Participants in the course were offered advanced training in the use of protective equipment; techniques to monitor, detect and decontaminate in response to attacks with chemical weapons; and table-top and field exercises.
