DHS S&T FRS attends wireless communications exhibition
Dan Cotter, the director of the FRG's Office for Interoperability and Compatibility (OIC), and Cuong Luu, the OIC program manager, also attended the Las Vegas-based event to generate interest in its programs. Cotter and Luu facilitated multiple IWCE panels, participated in a quarterly meeting of the National Public Safety Telecommunications Council (NPSTC), accomplished general OIC project outreach efforts and held a detailed design review for OIC's network extension project.
During the panel called "What about Now? Leveraging Current LMR Devices and Networks in a Broadband LTE World," Cotter reviewed current DHS Customs and Border Protection communications capabilities and DHS efforts to bridge legacy land mobile radio and broadband networks. The questions posed during the panel will help inform OIC project efforts.
Luu facilitated a panel called "Modeling Incident Scenarios on the Public Safety Broadband Network." He provided information during and after the session on an OIC modeling and simulation tool that predicts the performance of a future, nationwide, interoperable public safety broadband network.
The FRG said the exhibition and the NPSTC meeting helped the group to broaden its reach.
