Wyoming Homeland Security to host emergency kit cook-off
In conjunction with the Wyoming Citizen Corps Council and Suncor Energy, the office will host the event at 1 p.m. on May 10 at the Buckle Club in Cheyenne. The cook-off will have similar rules to the television show "Chopped," in which three cooks prepare an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert for the judges. In this competition, the participants may only use ingredients from a three-day emergency kit to make the dishes.
"Preparedness is an important principle to promote," the office said. "Tornadoes, floods, and even winter storms can leave families without the means to provide for themselves for three days. It is the goal of the Wyoming Citizen Corps Council to educate Wyoming residents on preparedness steps they can take to ensure they, and their family, will be better prepared."
Each of the dishes will be judged and an overall first, second and third prize will be awarded. The prizes will be cash donations from a sponsor to the winner's choice of charity specializing in preparedness.
The event will also feature a safety and preparedness fair.
