Personnel security specialist sought by FEMA

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is seeking a personnel security specialist in Washington, according to a hiring notice posted on Tuesday on

The two-year, temporary, full-time position requires extensive travel in support of emergency operations to relocate to emergency sites with operationally challenging and physically austere conditions. The position may also require occasional non-emergency travel.

The person hired for the position will perform a variety of administrative and security tasks for a chief security officer team within FEMA. The personnel security specialist will assist in the development, installation and management of the program as it relates to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12. They will also implement methods and procedures for protecting and identifying security program materials, operations, facilities, property, personnel and information.

Job assignments include making eligibility determinations on individuals for entry and reunion in public trust positions, evaluating and recommending procedures for processing negative information before and after hiring, requesting investigative files from external agencies, writing comprehensive adjudicative reports and focusing on minor to moderate issues.

Qualified applicants must have one full year of specialist experience at or equivalent to the general schedule-7 grade or equivalent federal service, knowledge of computer databases used for security management and knowledge of standard operating procedures in physical security, document security and personnel security.

FEMA expects to close the position by Sunday.
