BIO appoints new senior vice president of science policy

The Biotechnology Industry Organization announced on Thursday that Kay Holcombe will join the trade organization's staff as the new senior vice president of science policy in April.

Holcombe most recently served as the vice president of Food and Drug Administration alliances and federal agency relations for Sanofi.

"We are very fortunate to have Kay join the BIO team," Jim Greenwood, the president and CEO of BIO, said. "In addition to her extraordinarily substantive experience and knowledge based on a long and distinguished career in Washington, Kay is well-known throughout the industry and will be an excellent addition to our staff."

Before working at Sanofi, she served nine years as the vice president of government relations and a senior policy advisor at Genzyme. Holcombe also worked for eight years as an executive vice president of policy at Directions, Inc., a government relations consulting firm. She also served as the senior health policy advisor to the House Commerce Committee and as part of the health staff to the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee.

In her various positions, Holcombe worked on the Hatch-Waxman amendments to the Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act and the every reauthorization cycle of the Prescription Drug User Fee Act.

BIO is a trade association that represents biotechnology companies, state biotechnology centers, academic institutions and related organizations throughout the U.S. and in more than 30 other countries.
