FEMA seeks emergency management specialist in Oakland, Calif.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is looking for an emergency management specialist to work in Oakland, Calif., according to a recent job posting on usajobs.com.

The post is for a full-time, contract position not to exceed four years. The specialist will be deployed to emergency situations to provide technical and repair assistance for facilities, as well as provide interim financial assistance to public entities. The person hired will coordinate federal support for response and recovery during incidents that cause considerable damage or severely disrupt the population and infrastructure.

While on assignment, the specialist will take part in action planning, release correct and relevant information to the public, implement federal response programs and coordinate with other federal agencies, including state, local and tribal governments.

When the specialist is not deployed to an emergency site, they will participate in national, regional and state training exercises. They will also provide input for execution and documentation of plans for critical aspects of FEMA's mission and responses, give basic instruction for disaster-related topics, participate in regional disaster response planning and provide recommendations to improve existing programs.

To be qualified, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience in disaster Public Assistance operational plans, developing emergency response plans, and leadership experience in major disaster emergency management planning.
