FEMA seeks supervisory mitigation program specialist
The full-time, permanent position may require extensive travel in support of emergency operations with little advance notice. The position may also require occasional non-emergency travel.
The individual hired will serve as a supervisory mitigation program specialist for the Floodplain and Insurance Branch team within FEMA's Region Five Mitigation Division. The specialist will be responsible for determining and locating resources to plan, direct and supervise the administration of the National Flood Insurance Program within the region. The person hired will support the implementation of policies, regulations and guidance to mitigate the impact of floods and support multi-hazard risk reduction initiatives.
The specialist's duties will include exercising a broad range of managerial authorities and responsibilities related to flood mitigation programs, supporting the implementation of policies, regulation and guidance, providing comprehensive advice to the regional administrator and division director and making decisions regarding the initiation of new programs or the continuation, replacement or termination of existing programs.
Qualified applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the general schedule-13 level related to the management and administration of the NFIP. Applicants must also have experience and knowledge related to the NFIP and floodplain management regulations at the federal level.
Applicants will be evaluated on their knowledge of development management and community planning practices, knowledge of FEMA regulations, ability to speak effectively with diverse groups on contentious issues, knowledge of relationships between local, state and federal emergency management officials and knowledge of and experience with supervisory and management techniques.
