FEMA extends deadline for Youth Preparedness Council applications
FEMA is seeking youth leaders between the ages of 12 and 17 who are dedicated to public service, who want to expand their impact as advocates for youth disaster preparedness and who are making a difference in their communities. Applicants must be engaged in community or individual preparedness or must have experienced a disaster that motivated them to make a positive difference in the community.
Selected council members will attend a summit on youth disaster preparedness and complete a council project with support from FEMA.
FEMA formed the Youth Preparedness Council in 2013 to bring together youth leaders from throughout the U.S. that are interested in advocating youth preparedness. The council supports the agency's commitment to involving youth in activities related to preparedness and provides an avenue to engage youth population.
FEMA said that interest increased in the council in its second year, based on the number of applications received for the five available seats. FEMA selected five new members to the council in 2013 based on their efforts in making a difference to their community, dedication to public service and potential to expand their impact as nationwide advocates for youth preparedness.
