Chemical School commandant selected for new assignment

The Army Chief of Staff recentl9+y announced that U.S. National Guard base Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Knox, Ky., will swap general officers.

U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School Commandant Brig. Gen. Peggy Combs will leave Fort Leonard Wood to be the next U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox commanding general.

Brig. Gen. Maria Gervais will end her time as the Army Cadet Command's deputy commanding general at Fort Knox, and will replace Combs as the CBRN School commandant and Chief of Chemical.

Gervais served as the first female to lead the 82nd Chemical Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, and is a former chief of staff for the Army Chemical School and Maneuver Support Center of Excellence.

Combs was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps in 1985, and was assigned to Fort Leonard Wood in September 2012. Her previous assignments include Fort Hood, Texas, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Fort Stewart, Ga.

Combs has deployed to Baghdad for an Iraq Training and Advisory Mission, and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom for the U.S. Central Command in MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
