BARDA reequests medical countermeasure proposals
BARDA is part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The organization is looking for advanced research and development of vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics and instruments.
BARDA issued three Broad Agency Announcements for the development of an ointment to treat thermal burns; the development of protective equipment, ventilators, diagnostic tools, therapeutics and vaccines for influenza; and biodefense against emerging infectious diseases and CBRN threats.
BARDA is collecting a list of medical countermeasure candidates that can support the mission of the Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise. Funding for the BAAs will be assessed according to their relevance to countermeasure priorities given by national strategies against pandemic flu and CBRN threats.
BARDA said the contracts awarded for the BAAs will further the understanding of candidate medical countermeasures, and present a broader range of products to be considered for future procurement contracts.
Under the Pandemic and All Hazard Preparedness Act, BARDA promotes innovation in technology that might assist in research and development, such as new tools, devices, broad spectrum antimicrobials and vaccine manufacturing technologies.
