HSCSD annual meeting showcases security and response equipment
The meeting brought together public safety officials, homeland security organizations and police agencies to showcase a range of methods and infrastructure used to uphold security and funded by the HSCSD.
The Houston Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard of Houston-Galveston and Harris County Sherrif's Office put response equipment on display outside of the Houston Marriott South hotel during the meeting. The organizations also issued statements concerning security updates at a news conference.
"What you will see in the parking lot are layers of security currently used to protect our port and petrochemical industry," Chairman of the HSCSD Robin Riley said. "We will have water, land, air and sensor equipment on display to demonstrate our comprehensive approach to port security and community safety."
Riley said the HSCSD provides law enforcement agencies near Houston funding and innovative ideas on security measures to help keep the people of Houston safe against potential threats. The HSCSD also collaborates to ensure the safety of the Port of Houston and its facilities.
