MEADS demonstrates success in dual missile interception
During the demonstration at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., all of the MEADS system air and missile defense capabilities were tested, including its 360-degree Surveillance Radar, battle manager, PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement missile launchers and 360-degree Multifunctional Fire Control Radar. The MEADS system was successful in all of its tests.
"Today's successful flight test is the culmination of three countries working together to design, develop and build the most advanced and capable air and missile defense weapon system in the world," North Atlantic Treaty Organization MEADS Management Agency General Manager Gregory Kee said. "No fielded ground-mobile AMD System can intercept targets from two directions at the same time, as MEADS did today. MEADS technology can now be leveraged as mature, network-ready battle management, sensors and launchers to achieve the networked AMD capabilities envisioned by Germany, Italy and the United States."
The MEADS system is an innovative, ground-mobile AMD defense device that uses 360-degree radar technology, battle management capabilities, hit-to-kill PAC-3 MSE Missiles and easily transportable missile launchers. It is a technology which continues to exceed industry standards.
"Based on the maturity of the MEADS hardware and software, we asked our customer to expand this test to a dual intercept," MEADS International President Dave Berganini said. "The MEADS program continues to meet or exceed its commitments."
