MRIGlobal to work with Argentum Medical in testing chemical burn dressings
"We're very pleased to support Argentum Medical with this important project to provide the government with effective medical countermeasures to chemical threats," Vice President of Global Health Security Robert Casillas said.
MRIGlobal will support the project by developing treatment regimens and models to evaluate the effectiveness of antimicrobial burn contact dressings used as advanced treatments for chemical burns.
Argentum Medical LLC was awarded a $7.8 million, 24-month contract by the Department of Health and Human Services, Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.
Additional testing using strict Good Laboratory Procedures is an option for MRIGlobal if benchmarks in current tests are met. The additional testing could generate up to $16.5 million for the company over a five-year period.
The project has been funded in whole or in part with federal funds from the DHHS, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response and BARDA under contract number HHSOL00201200019C.
Argentum Medical was the first company to use metallic silver-plated nylon to fight infection and facilitate healing.
