HPSCI Chairman Rogers protests Iran's nomination to Committee on Disarmament
"Iran has been a sponsor of terror for decades, has threatened a key American ally with annihilation, conducts aggressive cyber attacks against the U.S. and our allies, and tried to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador in Washington, D.C.," Rogers said.
Rogers said Iran has set a poor example of disarmament and has allegedly attempted to obtain nuclear weapons, making its selection to serve on the Committee a poor decision.
"This is a country that has centrifuges actively spinning in an effort to obtain a nuclear weapon," Rogers said. "The selection of Iran to serve on the United Nations' Committee on Disarmament and International Security is outrageous and puts a fox in charge of the hen house. Placing a patron state of Syria on this committee as the U.N. begins disarmament of Syria's chemical weapons is a further blow to the credibility of the United Nations."
