CTED holds meeting on counterterrorism
The meeting was led by Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations and Chairman of the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Ambassador Mohammed Loulichki. CTED Executive Director Jean-Paul Laborde gave opening remarks.
The leaders spoke on the role of the Security Council resolution 1624 (2005). CTED Senior Legal Officer Dephine Schantz gave participants a presentation on the role of the FIUs, which include initiatives to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorist acts and the prosecution of offenders.
CTED Senior Human Rights Officer Edward Flynn gave a presentation on the updates to SC resolution 1624. The resolution calls on its Member States to prohibit and prevent incitement to commit terrorist acts and the promotion of international efforts to combat terrorism and broaden the international dialogue on the subject.
The resolution expects its Member States to comply with all obligations to counterterrorism under international and human rights law.
