Avon Rubber announces contract with customer in Middle East

Avon Rubber PLC, a developer of advanced chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear respiratory protection solutions, announced the award of a contract on Friday with a Middle Eastern customer.

The contract will supply 52,000 of the company's C50 respirators and MILCF50 filters to the customer. Avon anticipates it will fulfill the order during its 2014 financial year.

"This order reflects the growing demand from the Middle East region and Avon's market leadership in military and first responder respiratory protection," Peter Slabbert, the chief executive of Avon, said. "Our investment in a range of filtration products has allowed us to provide this customer with a complete CBRN respiratory protection solution."

Avon's protection system developer, Avon Protection, began developing military masks in the 1920s. The company is the primary supplier of CBRN personal protective equipment to the U.S. Department of Defense. In August, Avon received a $6.7 million contract from the DoD to develop a modified version of its M53 face mask to protect the operators of fixed wing aircraft. The contract included potential follow-on contract awards of up to $74 million.

"Our depth of capability and development positions Avon Protection as the global market leader of respiratory protection systems technology," Slabbert said.

Avon's products are used in more than 60 countries.
