VCDNP hosts multiple events on disarmament in July
The first event the VCDNP participated in was the "International Conference on Nuclear Security: Enhancing Global Efforts," an event organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency the first week of July. VCDNP Executive Director Elena Sokova gave a speech at the event titled "Applying Best Practices of the Cooperative Threat Reduction Program to Advancing a Global Nuclear Security Agency." VCDNP associates also participated in meetings during this conference on nuclear security and missile materials.
In the middle of the month, VCDNP staff took part in the Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty Organization's Diplomacy and Public Policy Course. Staff participated in discussions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's alleged nuclear tests, the challenges the Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty faces and arms control negotiation methods.
The VCDNP organized the Academic Council on the United Nations System's summer course, titled "Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation: Challenges, Opportunities and Perspectives," at the end of July. Representatives ran discussions titled "Results of the 2012 NPT PrepCom," "Next Steps in U.S.-Russia and Multilateral Nuclear Arms Control," "Nuclear Security Regime Developments" and "Military Perspectives on Disarmament" to discuss challenges the international community faces to achieving global disarmament and non-proliferation.
The VCDNP is a non-governmental organization that seeks to advocate international peace and security in regard to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
