OPCW Deputy Director-General Asirwatham opens CWC meeting
Asirwatham opened the meeting by commending the strong commitment the States Parties in the region have to the accomplishment of the goals of the Chemical Weapons Convention. She expressed her gratitude for the States Parties support of the OPCW and the implementation of the CWC. Asirwatham also encouraged States Parties leaders to promote CWC awareness and to continue to build new methods for implementing the CWC.
While Asirwatham was in Quito, she met with Minister of Industry and Productivity Dr. Ramiro Gonzalez, Deputy Minister of Defense Dr. Carlos Larrea, and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Under Secretary General for Latin America and the Caribbean Ambassador Galso Galarza. She gave the officials updates on the results from the Third Review Conference in April.
Asirwatham congratulated Ecuador on its solid commitment to the Convention and encouraged States Members to increase cooperation in the region.
