OPCW organizes training to counter chemical weapons in east African region
Eleven trainers attended the course held in Lazne Bohdanec from May 20 to 24. The idea behind the program is to train the trainers on how to handle chemical weapon incidents so they can go back and train the appropriate personnel in their respective countries. The course included training on personal protective equipment, detection, decontamination and sample collection.
The course was part of a long-term capacity building project with State Parties in the sub region of East-Africa and was launched originally in June 2007. Other projects include Article X and other practical training courses in the Czech Republic and Tanzania from 2008 to 2010.
Leaders from the East African sub-region have collaborated with OPCW before in the ASSISTEX 3 exercise held in Tunisia in 2010.
