U.S. and Azerbaijan cooperate on nonproliferation
Suleymanov expressed his confidence in the partnership, reported by the Digital Journal, explaining that Azerbaijan's stance on nonproliferation is "unshakeable" and with the help of U.S. forces, they can ensure that no weapons of mass destruction "find their way, simply put, to where they shouldn't be."
The partnership will provide support to Azerbajijan in its development of defense and security infrastructure. The U.S. will provide resources to the country to train and advise their civil-military relations, provide further education to its military forces and training on how to manage emergency response teams, a Department of Defense fact sheet outlined.
The U.S. and Azerbaijan share the goals of countering proliferation, terrorism and maritime security. Azerbaijan will also be supported in controlling smuggling and keeping their borders on the Caspian Sea protected.
"Azerbaijan is no longer just a consumer of security," Suleymanov said. "It's now a provider of security and an equal partner in that."
