Norad exercise scheduled for Washington D.C. region
NORAD is a combined organization between the United States and Canada that provides aerospace warning, air sovereignty and defense for the two countries. The NORAD headquarters are located in Peterson Air Force Base in El Paso County, close to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The exercise will be comprised of a numerous flights held in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Capital Region Coordination Center, the Joint Air Defense Operations Center (JADOC), Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard and CONR's Eastern Air Defense Sector.
The exercise that will be done, Falcon Virgo, was made to hone NORAD's intercept and identification operations. It was also designed to test the NCR Visual Warning System and certify newly assigned command and control personnel at JADOC. Taking part in the exercises will be the Civil Air Patrol aircraft and the U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter.
Should there be any inclement weather, the exercise will take place the following evening. If the bad weather should extend to the next day, the officials will make a decision to either postpone or cancel the exercise.
