Arizona man gets 12 years for possessing and using chemical weapons
Todd Fries received the sentence on Friday for possessing and using a chemical weapon, in addition to providing false information to investigators, Associated Press reports.
Fries, the owner of Burns Power Washing, was convicted in October following a May 2011 arrest related to his attack on a former customer's home. Fries attacked a couple near the Shannon and Magee neighborhoods in Tucson after the homeowners canceled a payment for work Fries did at their home, KVOA.com reports.
In August 2009, the couple living at the house awoke one morning to find their house covered in Spanish language graffiti and a swastika. The residents could not leave their house because the garage and front doors were sealed shut. There were also dead animals on the porch, chemicals in the front yard and there was an explosive device nearby.
The chemical mixture in the front yard consisted of chlorine and another substance. The combination resulted in a cloud of toxic gas that required the evacuation of several families in the neighborhood.
The FBI initially investigated the matter as a hate crime because the victims were Jewish, KVOA.com reports.
