Registration opens for 8th Force Protection Equipment Demonstration

Registration has begun for the 8th Force Protection Equipment Demonstration, known as the FPED VIII, where the latest off-the-shelf technology for countering terrorist threats will be presented in a collaboration between government and industry.

FPED VIII will take place at Northern Virginia's Stafford Regional Airport between May 17 and May 19 of next year. The demonstration will feature over 575 exhibitors with more than 3,000 technologically advanced items in 20 categories of equipment.

The event has been held every two years since 1997 in an effort to frequently review possible solutions to counter the large and expanding array of delivery methods and weapons developed by terrorists in combat zones and at facilities both home and abroad. In recent years, counter-terrorism planning has needed to incorporate improvised explosive devices, explosives emplacement aboard cargo and commercial passenger aircraft, direct assaults with small arms or heavy weapons, car bombs and suicide bombers.

The theme for the FPED VIII is "Force Protection Through Integrated Physical Security Solutions" to emphasize the need for current and future protection needs to meet an increasingly broad range of future security challenges.

The demonstrations is open to law enforcement, defense and first-responder personnel.

Sponsors of the event include the DoD Physical Security Equipment Action Group, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Technical Support Working Group.
