DIATHERIX Labs presents single test viral and bacterial technology

DIATHERIX Laboratories recently demonstrated its proprietary molecular technology to Homeland Security leaders.

DIATHERIX's Target Enriched Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction technology allows it to test for both viral and bacterial pathogens with a single test. Results are available the next day, allowing physicians to quickly and accurately develop an effective course of treatment.

If our country were faced with a biological attack, fast and accurate testing would be critical in properly containing the outbreak and properly treating victims," Dennis Grimaud, chairman and CEO of DIATHERIX, said.

"In addition, in light of the current H1N1 pandemic," Grimaud said, "Simultaneous detection of the H1N1 strain and bacterial co-infections can help effectively identify and treat those patients at highest risk and control the spread of the virus."

The company also touted its Target Enriched Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction technology for biodefense applications within the military.

"Our technology can also detect infectious agents from multiple environmental sample types," Grimaud said. "If we detect these agents in regions where our military serves, we can take preventive measures to protect them."

DIATHERIX, located in the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Hunstville, Alabama, operates as an independent high complexity CLIA-certified clinical laboratory providing advanced multiplex molecular diagnostic services to assist healthcare providers in the detection of infectious disease.
