Emergent BioSolutions appoints Ronald Richard to board of directors

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Emergent BioSolutions Inc. on Jan. 26, 2005, announced the appointment of Ronald Richard to its six-person board of directors.

Richard is president and CEO of the Cleveland Foundation, a community foundation that has more than $1.6 billion in assets. He has served in senior management positions at Panasonic/Matsushita Electric and In-Q-Tel. A former U.S. diplomat, he served in Yokohama and Osaka/Kobe, Japan, and in Washington, D.C.

“Emergent is pleased to welcome Mr. Richard to our board of directors,” said Fuad El- Hibri, chairman and CEO of Emergent BioSolutions. “We believe that his extensive experience in commercial transactions and his background in international relations will contribute significantly to the success of our future endeavors.”

Richard has a master’s degree in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a bachelor’s degree in history from Washington University in St. Louis.

“I am excited by the opportunity to join the board of Emergent, a growing company with established vaccine and related products that protect the public’s health and safety,” Richard said.

He serves on the board of trustees of Spelman College and on the board of advisers of the Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. He also serves as chairman of the board of trustees of the International Biomedical Research Alliance.

Emergent BioSolutions Inc., formed in 2004, is dedicated to the research, development and manufacture of products that harness the immune system to treat and prevent disease. These include vaccines and related products for prophylactic and therapeutic use against common infectious diseases and biological weapons of mass destruction.
