Johnson County seeks deputy emergency management coordinator

Johnson County, Iowa is seeking a deputy emergency management coordinator within its Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

This position is responsible for the administration of the county's hazardous materials team's budgeting and grant-related activity and for managing the Community Emergency Response Team. This position assists the coordinator in development and implementation of preparedness and response protocols for emergencies and disasters. This person will also oversee the reception plans for the Duane Arnold Power Plant.

Candidates must hold an associate's degree or higher in a field related to emergency management, homeland security, community or regional planning, or business continuity. Candidates should also have at least three years of experience in emergency management, disaster planning research, public safety, public administration or related area of work. Education and work experience can be interchanged assuming the candidate has the appropriate knowledge, experience and training. Candidates must hold a valid driver's license and be insured under agency liability.

The selected candidate must relocate to within a 20-mile radius of the Emergency Management Office within six months of hiring. The selected candidate will also be required to complete the following within two years of employment: the Federal Emergency Management Agency Professional and Advanced Professional Development series, the Iowa Certified Emergency Manager training, and ICS 100, 200,300, 400 and NIMS IS 700, 775 and 800.
