Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians seeks emergency director

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, based in California, seeks a director for its emergency services division.

This position plans and coordinates response to disasters and facilitates recovery measures for the band and the tribe's holdings. The director helps develop and improve response and recovery capabilities, and provides guidance to emergency response teams and volunteers.

Qualified individuals will have a bachelor's degree and at least five years of emergency management experience within the public or private sector. A high school diploma with at least 10 years in emergency management is also acceptable. Candidates also should be experienced with managing and working with a diverse team and should have the ability to work with executives, operations managers, directors in other jurisdictions and elected officials.

Technical qualifications include a familiarity with the National Response Framework and the National Recovery Plan, as well as  experience working with the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System.

The director of the tribe's emergency services oversees operations and the certification and training of Chumash emergency service personnel, specifically the fire department. This position is also responsible for the preparation of grant proposals and the planning and implementation of Tribal Emergency Operation Plans, Hazard Mitigation Plans and Continuity of Operations Plans for the tribe.
