Qatar University said a contract has been awarded to WorkingBuildings Companies to design and construct the university's first laboratory that will be a Bio-Safety Level-3 facility.
The research facility will be an invaluable asset to the Qatari government and its citizens to protect themselves against the possibility of an emerging infectious outbreak.
"The university will also be able to expand on intellectual discoveries from research," WorkingBuildings CEO Michael Weiss said Friday. "We are very pleased to add Qatar University as a client and to be able to support them in this critical public health and strategic program."
The facility, once completed, will feature state-of-the-art research tools and equipment to study threats to public health. It will also allow for research into chemical and biological agents that could be utilized in acts of terror. The facility will also have space for student classrooms.
WorkingBuildings specializes in the construction and development of bio-safety laboratories and other health related facilities.
