CDC seeking emergency operations director

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a Dec. 19 job posting that it is seeking a director for its Division of Emergency Operations in Atlanta.

This is a Senior Executive Service (SES) position. The director will be asked to act as an international expert in managing, implementing and designing emergency operation programs.

The director's responsibilities include acting as the first level supervisor for planning, directing and managing a multitude of functions within the area of emergency preparedness and health emergencies and coordinating the CDC's preparedness, response, assessment, recovery and evaluation before and during public health emergencies among other responsibilities involving leadership, utilizing Incident Command System, overseeing the division's budget and acting as a primary point of contact.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and will undergo a background and/or security investigation. The selected candidate will undergo a one-year period of probation for the SES level of government work, unless this was completed elsewhere.

Applicants are required to have at least one year of experience directly relating to this area, previous experience should have managerial and leadership practices and the design and implementation of emergency protocol. Applicants for SES positions must show a progression of leadership in previous positions. Applicants should show successful evidence of abilities to oversee operational, communication and administrative functions within emergency management; knowledge of regulations and laws at all levels of government; and overall leadership practices.

Men born after Dec. 31, 1959, should be registered or have exemption in the Selective Service.
