Kentucky Emergency Management participates in preparedness event

Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) and state cabinet personnel participated in the annual Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) exercise on Wednesday at Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The exercise simulates an event involving chemical agents at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond. It allows emergency responders and agencies that support both natural and man-made incidents at a local and statewide level to train together.

Personnel from KYEM, Kentucky National Guard, U.S. Army, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky Department of Public Health, Kentucky Public Safety Cabinet, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Emergency Medical Services, American Red Cross, the private sector and local governments participated in the event.

Lessons learned from the exercise are in alignment with Kentucky Emergency Managements' All Hazards Approach, which serves to improve preparedness efforts and enhance response and recovery capabilities in the event of an actual disaster.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency provided exercise evaluators and observers for the exercise.
