OS » For Catalina and Mojave: Apple closes several vulnerabilities with the update

macOS Catalina - Apple

Apple continues to keep older macOS versions with security updates. This evening’s updates for older versions of macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave have been released again. These plug a relatively large number of holes: many of these patches are only available for macOS Catalina.

In addition to the current macOS Big Sur 11.5, Apple also kept older versions this evening. Updates to macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave have been released to users of these systems.

These address a whole series of vulnerabilities that had to be filled in previous years’ systems, and many of the vulnerabilities listed by Apple have already been closed with iOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7 on iPhone and iPad, because the foundation of the system is the same.

Several fixes are only available for macOS Catalina

Vulnerabilities have been eliminated in various system components, including audio, Bluetooth, word processing, fonts, various graphics units, graphics drivers for AMD and Intel devices, as well as Webkit, Apple’s browser engine.

Further, the holes in the sandbox and in the core were sealed. In many cases, for example, memory errors were discovered and fixed that could have been used by attackers to inject and execute malicious code. However, it should be noted that most of these fixes were only offered for macOS Catalina. Most of the time, the last two versions of macOS still come with updates, but the older version can be out of date in individual cases.
