Bad Neustadt ad Saale (ots)

June 8th is World Brain Cancer Day. On the occasion of this International Day of Action, the Chief Physician of the Neurosurgery Clinic at RHÖN-KLINIKUM Campus Bad Neustadt, Special Lecturer Dr. Albrecht Waschke and his team answer questions from patients and relatives.

The RHÖN-KLINIKUM Campus in Bad Neustadt once again sets a common example this year and draws attention to the difficult situation of those affected and their families. “Up-to-date and quality information on diagnosis, treatment and aftercare is important for those affected in order to be able to deal with the disease appropriately. This knowledge brings safety, can reduce psychological stress caused by a brain tumor diagnosis and improve quality of life,” Waschke.

Because brain tumors are so rare compared to other types of cancer, they are hardly ever noticed by the general public. They can occur in all age groups and often form a complex clinical picture. In Germany alone, more than 8000 people develop a brain tumor each year. In addition, many other types of cancer lead to brain metastases, which are known as secondary brain tumors.

Neurological center with a clinic for neurosurgery

The Clinic for Neurosurgery considers itself a center for endoscopic and minimally invasive neurosurgery. Many complex issues are dealt with here every year. Using advanced techniques, endoscopic technology and the extensive experience of Dr. Waschke, many operations are possible through the smallest openings called “keyhole”. Operations have significant advantages for patients: they can be removed more quickly, have significantly less pain and complications – and the cosmetic result is also excellent.
