FEMA announces open telecommunication, technological hazards positions.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently announced open positions in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Chicago, Illinois.

In Honolulu, there is a vacancy for a telecommunication specialist. This person will be providing support for the Pacific Area Office (PAO). Typical work includes advising the PAO’s director, regional communication coordinator and the deputy director; coordinating with regional emergency communication coordinators and facilitating information sharing; and representing the PAO in meetings with federal support agencies that are related to management of disaster operations. This position will also provide support to operation improvement plans and projects.

For this position, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an area related to electrical engineering, physics, public utilities, computer science, telecommunication management or information systems management is required. This position also requires at least one year of work experience at the GS-11 level of government work with specialized experience in monitoring telecommunication systems and establishing technological support for systems.

The telecommunication specialist position’s application window closes on Monday, Jan. 4, or when 200 submissions have been received.

The position based in Chicago is a technological hazards program assistant. This position is tasked with the provision of computer support for the office and will prepare drafts for work products. This person will assist in the review of emergency preparedness plans at the state and local levels and determine plan efficacy. This person will also perform timekeeping for the technological hazards branch.

This position requires at least one year of experience at the GS-06 level of government work with specialized experience in clerical support, statistics and tabulation and payroll and timekeeping activity.
