Entomol Products, DuPont sign insect repellent licensing agreement
The companies said formulations of the HCO product have been effective in driving mosquitoes away. Mosquitoes are considered a threat due to their ability to spread blood-borne illness such as malaria, yellow fever and dengue fever in certain areas.
“HCO is an innovative, bio-based insect repellent that can help people live healthier lives by protecting them from insects that can transmit disease,” Douglas Muzyka, senior vice president and chief science and technology officer at DuPont, said. “We are pleased to work with Entomol to bring this exciting new ingredient to market.”
Through the agreement, Entomol will be able to have commercial access to HCO-related patents and formulas to manufacture repellents. The company has initiated the production of DuPonts’ HCO product in private label repellent products. At this time, the company is the only authorized source for the HCO formula from DuPont.
“Entomol is thrilled to be working with DuPont to commercialize this breakthrough product, bringing to market a nature-based, EPA-registered insect repellent that is as effective as synthetic chemicals,” Entomol CEO Mark Sloneker said. “An effective nature-based insect repellent benefits everyone along the supply chain, from growers to consumers, and has the potential to change the industry.”
