SDI's latest X-ray system qualifies for updated cargo screening list.
The HI-SCAN 6040-2 X-ray screening system has been accepted into the qualified category of the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Air Cargo Screening Technology List (ACSTL), Smiths Detection Inc. (SDI) announced on Thursday.

“Inclusion on the ACSTL by TSA is further proof of our next-generation HI-SCAN 6040-2is’s best-in-class capabilities,” SDI President Terry Gibson said. “SDI works with all our customers to deliver the latest evolutions in technology to meet their screening requirements and provide speed and accuracy, while remaining cost-effective.”

This screening system consists of dual-view X-rays that allows multiple vantage points to be used in order to enhance the detection capability against threats. It is capable of penetrating up to 35 millimeters of steel. The European Union has approved the system for Standard 3 Type C use in airport checkpoints.

The ACSTL was recently updated to require all purchases of systems to have dual-view X-ray capabilities.

The company offers 12 dual-view systems that align with TSA requirements. SDI specializes in the development and manufacturing of detection and identification systems for multiple kinds of threats including explosives, weapons, narcotics and those under chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) categories. The company also manages programs for state and federal governments including the Department of Defense.
