FEMA announces emergency management specialist positions

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced vacancies for emergency management positions at its New York and Atlanta offices on Friday.

The New York office has openings for a general emergency management specialist and one who is specialized in recovery. The Atlanta office has an opening for an emergency management specialist.

Emergency management specialists are tasked with policy issues, resource mobilization and response activity to disasters and other emergency situations. This position might entail hazard identification and minimization of threats in line with established emergency management standards. This position will also be expected to perform analysis and support activity of disaster workforce resources and future disaster staffing and readiness plans.

For this position, candidates should have one year of experience at the GS-07 level of government service or equivalent for the GS-09 position and a full year of experience at the GS-09 level for the position at the GS-11 level. Work should entail coordination of response operations, analysis of workforce initiatives and research.

The emergency management specialist in recovery will be expected to manage spend plans and quarterly reporting, and coordinate with other applicable agencies or organizations in recovery efforts. This position will also take part in the implementation and monitoring of public assistance programs for the region.

This position requires one year of work at the GS-11 level of government service or equivalent. Past experience should include data analysis and presentation and grant program implementation.

The application window for the New York Office positions will close Wednesday and the Atlanta application window will close Tuesday.
