Members of the California National Guard held their annual training at the Center for Domestic Preparedness over the summer, the center announced on Wednesday.

During a two-week period, soldiers took part in the Emergency Responder Hazardous Materials Technician for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Incidents (ERHM) and the Hazardous Materials Technician for CBRNE Incidents (HT) courses.

Both courses take place over five days and participants were able to develop their skills in managing these kinds of threats in hands-on exercises. Approximately 110 soldiers from the 140th and the 149th Chemical Companies took part in this training.

ā€œI had no idea what to expect," Second Lt. Eric Kang, a participant in the training held in July, said. "I have only heard good things about it from soldiers that have been to the CDP in the prior years. But, after training at the CDP for two weeks, it had exceeded my expectations when it came to training. The classes went beyond the basic HAZMAT knowledge and provided in-depth information on the procedures of HAZMAT incidents and awareness. It is the best HAZMAT training you can receive.ā€

The CDP offers training to National Guard Soldiers and airmen and to civil responders at state, local, tribal and federal levels of government.
