BARDA releases Broad Agency Announcement for infectious disease countermeasures

BARDA releases Broad Agency Announcement for infectious disease countermeasures.

The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) submitted a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) to solicit continued research into countermeasures against infectious diseases on Oct. 1.

In this solicitation, BARDA is seeking platform technology that is capable of expediting the development of medical countermeasures and the identification and manufacture of these countermeasures.

With this BAA, the agency predicts that any research or development activity awarded will be able to establish the scientific backing of submitted platform technology. BARDA asks that all submissions should include a statement of work that is applicable to a known pathogen and to provide information on capabilities or estimated capabilities relating to performance and feasibility.

BARDA states that one contract is expected to be made as a result of a later BAA which is expected to be announced on Oct. 13.

This set of solicitation announcements and resulting contracts are made by BARDA to support the ongoing Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE), as well as their implemented plan relating to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threats and other agents. Under the Pandemic and All Hazard Preparedness Act, BARDA is authorized to conduct countermeasure and products related to countermeasures searches and make calls for these items.
