DTRA offers contract to foster laboratory capability in Cambodia and Thailand
Through this contract, a selected company or entity would be working with Oxford and Mahidol Universities through their joint facility, the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit. Under this contract, the selected entity would be providing necessary equipment to the National Institutes of Health and Animal Health in Thailand and the National Institute of Public Health in Cambodia. According to the announcement, this would help these facilities to be better prepared against an outbreak of emerging pathogens, including various strains of avian influenza and anthrax, among others.
With this contract the company would be working in this manner for 18 months; it is estimated to have a total value of $603,000.
Alongside the provision of laboratory equipment, it would be expected that staff at these facilities would be trained in proper use and in biological safety by the selected contractor.
The announcement notes that this contract was not made utilizing the typical full and open competition, and an unnamed contractor has been selected by DTRA.
