FEMA announces four vacancies at Chicago office
There are two positions open in the areas of recovery and mitigation.
An emergency management specialist in mitigation will be tasked with the analysis of policies and regulations, and ensuring that they are followed.
Typical assignments in this area would include engaging in risk reduction programs, promoting the National Flood Insurance Program, and helping communities to lessen socioeconomic impacts of disasters and other emergency situations.
For those focused in recovery, emergency management specialists will be tasked with maintaining and establishing recovery operations during an emergency or disaster situation.
This position has the potential to require unusual hours and high-pressure environments during an emergency. Typical assignments here would consist of implementing public assistance programs before, during and after a federal emergency has been declared; and serving as a public assistance grant program technical expert. In addition, this position will be expected to provide guidance to state and local government officials in this area.
Qualifications for both positions include one year of experience at the GS-09 level of government work or equivalent with experience pertaining to the position's specialty area. A doctorate or equivalent level of education at graduate levels of study can be substituted.
