Battelle National Biodefense Institute lands 10-year Homeland Security contract.
The Battelle National Biodefense Institute (BNBI) announced on Wednesday that they have been awarded a 10-year contract by the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center (NBACC) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Under this contract, BNBI would continue to manage operations at the NBACC. They had originally been awarded a similar contract in 2006.

“We’re pleased to continue our successful management of the nation’s premier biodefense analysis lab,” Ron Townsend, executive vice president of Battelle’s Global Laboratory Operations, said. “This was a first-of-its-kind endeavor when we started back in 2006 and we look forward to the second chapter of this important mission.”

This contract consists of five sets of one-year contracts with possible one-year extensions and if they are fully realized amount to approximately $480 million.

"BNBI's new contract was awarded as the result of a highly competitive process," BNBI President Patrick Fitch said. "Our team has delivered impactful high-quality science for the NBACC mission while maintaining safe, secure and compliant operations. This a winning team in every respect, and we are excited to build on this strong foundation and move NBACC forward with DHS."

BNBI operates as a subsidiary of Battelle. Battelle provides management services to six national laboratories associated with the Department of Energy.
