VDEM seeks Richmond regional planner

This position will be tasked with assisting partners in the Richmond area, including localities, educational institutions, state agencies and other organizations, to develop and maintain all plans for hazard management. This position will be expected to perform during an emergency situation which will likely require irregular hours and work outside of the main office. This position will carry out any directives relating to emergency management and homeland security programs in line with state, local and federal laws and procedure.
Candidates should be well-versed in emergency management practices and should have working knowledge of planning guidance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Incident Management System. Experience should also include work with incident command operations. Those with a bachelor's degree in an area relating to emergency management, regional and urban planning, physical sciences, liberal arts and public administration will be given preference.
Candidates should be comfortable with using a computer and Microsoft Office software and should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and should be able to work with colleagues and with officials outside of the department.
