FEMA seeks emergency management specialist

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking an emergency management specialist in the area of resource unit leadership at its Oakland, California office.

This position is part of a Type II, Regional Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT), which stipulates a 24-hour on-call schedule in the case of an emergency or disaster situation.

The specialist is tasked with the maintenance and evaluation of assigned resources, and will be expected to coordinate federal support for recovery and response activity when a natural or man-made incident occurs.

When deployed in an emergency situation, the specialist establishes check-in functions on resources, prepares assigned parts of the Incident Action Plan, and directs preparation of organizational assignments and other items.

Outside of an emergency situation, the specialist will take part in exercises at all levels of government and all required training sessions with states, territories and other federal government entities. This person will be expected to take part in the development planning of regional catastrophic planning, and will provide instruction on disaster-related topics to regional, statewide and local authorities.

Candidates are required to have one year of specialized experience equivalent to a federal grade lower than this position, and have National incident Management System (NIMS) Resource Unit Leader certification or an equivalent from a non-NIMS compliant organization.

Candidates also are required to hold a bachelor's degree, and a significant notion of academic excellence that can include a grade point average of 3.5 or membership in a scholastic honors society.
