UAE represented at global biological threat reduction conference
Over the course of the three-day conference, representatives from multiple countries discussed the prevention and response to emerging biological threats and how to detect them. Key topics of the conference included international frameworks on threat reduction and measures relating to the threat of an outbreak of exotic or emerging pathogens.
The conference was jointly organized by the World Health Organization and the World Organization for Animal Health.
The participation of UAE representatives is in line with the country's plan to promote and enhance its biological security measures. Director of the UAE Ministry's Biodiversity Department Ahmed Al Hashmi states that the country is planning to fortify their biological security by updating current regulations and legislation in the country as well as building its capability to detect and prevent a biological threat of accident from occurring.
He detailed that this initiative would also facilitate the UAE's ability to manage the impacts of potential biological threats or attacks. According to Al Hashmi, the conference provides a platform for open discussion and for the international community to share their knowledge and expertise.
