Eugene, Oregon, seeks emergency manager

The city of Eugene, Oregon, said recently it has an opening for an emergency manager for its Emergency Management Program.
   
This position oversees the city's emergency management plans and programs. The emergency manager is responsible for the development, maintenance and implementation of operation plans relating to mitigation and preparedness. The manager acts as an adviser to the city manager and other members of the executive management team on issues related to emergency management.
  
The emergency manager will be expected to represent the city for local, federal and state government officials, nongovernmental organizations and the general public. The emergency manager will also be charged with the training, recruitment and utilization of volunteers and will oversee the Community Emergency Response Team program.

Candidates are required to hold a bachelor's degree in an area related to emergency services or management and a minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in emergency preparedness and response. Preference is given to those who have worked in the public sector. Candidates should have at least one year of supervisory experience. An Oregon driver's license or the ability to obtain one by the time of hire is required.

Those with emergency manager certification and candidates that have completed the Federal Emergency Management Agency Professional Development Series and Basic Applied Practices will be given preference.
