Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Evidence Technician Markwardt trains at CDP

Tabitha Markwardt, an evidence technician at the Troy, Missouri-based Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, recently trained at FEMA's Center for Domestic Preparedness.

Markwardt previously attended the CDP for four training courses to improve her level of preparedness. The classes she took included Law Enforcement Response Actions for CBRNE Incidents, Initial Law Enforcement Response to Suicide Bomb Attacks, Law Enforcement Protective Measures for CBRNE Incidents and Intermediate Hands-on Training for CBRNE Incidents.

In her latest visit to the CDP, Markwardt planned to attend the Hazardous Materials Evidence Collection for CBRNE Incidents course and the Hands-on-Training for CBRNE Incidents course. Markwardt said she hoped to learn tools, techniques and skills she could share with her department and the other evidence technicians in Lincoln County.

"The skills and knowledge that the instructors offer here is excellent and whatever I can bring back - contacts, networking, everything - it's all offered here," Markwardt said.

Markwardt said the skills she learned during her latest training included details in note taking, proper evidence handling and keeping everything together.

"There are so many things going on in our country that we just have to be prepared for anything and everything," Markwardt said. "It's all about evidence and that is what I do."

Markwardt said networking with other law enforcement professionals and studying at the CDP has been very beneficial.
